Dev temporarily halted

Hey guys, development on 8-Bit Zombie is going to be temporarily halted for now because of personal issues and because I actually want to start small.

Be on the look out for a new game in development though, this one will be finished soon!

More bits

I knew I would have the animation for the Deagle shooting by lunch time, but what I failed to achieve is a CORRECT animation for the Deagle. It’s taken me 7 hours to create a near perfect effect I’m looking for, but now the hands are the wrong way around *facepalm*. Now I need to switch hands and it will be done, FINALLY!

I think from now on, if I’m working on something this long, I should either take breaks from the computer to think about it, or carry on with another part of the project. What I need now is 1st person, I should get on that when I’m done with my hand problem.

I’m so close to finishing my prototype for the 3rd person visualization!!!

This is Mr. Head, he’s pissed off, since he couldn’t have his pizza the night before because the Zombies got to Pizza Palace before he did.

One bit at a time

Well, last night I found my cork board! I am so excited about it, now I have all my todo lists on it and it serves as a physical reminder as to what needs to be done.

I have been thinking about a name for my development ‘team’. Either Synthetabit or 8-Bit…I have not decided yet but I’m leaning heavily on Sythetabit simply because it’s very unique and has a real meaning [Synthetic bits].

I have done quite a lot since my last post. I have made Mr. Head (I need to find a better name for him) meaner, more serious and much much less cute (As serious as a square headed guy wielding zombie killing weapons can be!).

I’m aiming for the hardcore and casual gaming community since 8BZ will be a very competitive and a ‘time waster’ game. In my opinion, everyone who loves killing zombies, has imagination (You can build in the game, place what what ever you find where ever you want) and some skill in FPS games will love 8BZ.

I was thinking of doing a dynamic city also, on top of having the city randomly generated from sets, such as traps, ambush points, choke points, natural dangers etc etc etc.

Picture updates will be rolling in slowly since I’m a one man team and can only do so much ;) Hint: I should have the third person model shooting a deagle by today.

Todo List!

Ok, so I thought it would be wise to stratch up a todo list so I know where I stand in the stages of Development.

I am also going to use a cork board at home to I have some sort of Physical reference.

Todo:

+ Come up with a name to call my Indie dev team (Just me in it so far)

+ Get some animations done for the character (Namely running and idles)

+ Prototype a character customization system (Working on that right now)

+ Create a Moddb page

+ Get Twitter running

+ Find a way to spread the word about 8-Bit Zombie

+ Look into some indie competitions

Demotivated!

I got home, and I was super excited to continue development with 8-Bit Zombie, then all of a sudden when I actually got home I didn’t feel like doing anything.

I cooked for the family (Pasta, my very own created dish, I call the Zingatsulation) and went straight to my room, to where I am right now. Listening to Static X and Airborne.

I can’t even carry on reading Markus’s blog because I don’t know what page I’m on.

I’m so screwed. Lol

8-Bit Zombie: Character

Meet Square Head.

He’s the default character model for 8-Bit Zombie (Also known as the mascot), textured and rigged (Can’t see the rigging). I’m happy with him, although I might change him up a little just to make him look fancy, for now, he looks pristine.

Update:

+ Got Square Head finished.

- He looks too cute to be in a zombie game.

+ Got weapon mechanics done.

- Still a lot to do.

I might be uploading a video of animations and stuff later, so be sure to check the latest.

[EDIT] There was a stone in my shoe and yet I have been inside all day O_o

Ultimate words

I’ve been reading a lot of Notch’s blogs [The Word of Notch] (Actually every one of them from when he started his Tumblr until today) and I must say, he seems like a really cool guy.

His blog posts are really informative and are sometimes filled with some pretty cool and nifty things, such as indie games I never knew about. He’s a role model of mine. His real name is Markus Persson for those who wanted to know, and he’s Swedish (If I remember). If I ever meet him in RL, I’ll give him diamonds, a lot of them.

Moving on, he’s a huge inspiration for me, so I keep reading about him, and the more I read the more I learn and the more I learn the more I want to get 8-Bit Zombie into development faster.

At the moment, I have finished the character mesh, texture and rigging. Now I just have some animations to do and I can get some programming done :D

Pics coming soon!

First post

Hey

Short Introduction

My full name is Terence-Lee Davis and I’m a programmer, artist and an avid guitarist (Not a very good one). I mostly spend my time either outside with my friends, or inside developing games or programming something nerdy. I’m also a crazy fan of anything Anime.

On Topic

This tumblr is going be 80% about 8-Bit Zombie (Working title).

8-Bit Zombie

The gameplay will be very similar to the Zombie mode that Call of Duty made so popular and Left 4 Dead. Graphics wise, Minecraft comes to mind (Good ol’ Marcus Persson, thank you for that game). Sound wise, expect realistic sounds and Addiction wise, expect to be addicted.

8BZ will be a very simple game; kill or be killed, where players (Yes it will be multiplayer) defend themselves against hordes of zombies, progressing through each level/map will gain access to better weapons and more and more zombies with the addition of special zombies that spawn more rapidly. The mechanics of the game will be easy to grasp but also have a lot of depth, creating opportunities for different styles of gameplay in an ever changing environment.

That’s all for now
